Hello there, Kazu here with some quick updates regarding the newsletter and future plans forward.
Let us start with the main conclusion. After what feels like forever since it was decided to put a temporary break on this newsletter which ended up being a way longer than planned, it have been decided to finally restart it again at the beginning of next year.
While there is a desire to try avoiding too much workload at once, having an actually regular newsletter is good for both productivity and having a way to easily push out a various things found worth mentioning proactively.
With that said. There will be some changes compared to previously. The weekly release schedule will still be around (and hopefully better kept to than previously) but to better try minimizing possible negative effects from it, it has been decided to change the release date from Early Monday to Late Sunday.
This will help avoid possible interference with regular business days and something that can get out the door before next week officially start. Exact release time will not be given either to avoid unneeded artificial stress.
Additionally, before, there was news I wanted to include but I did not really either have the time or energy to properly sit down and write about. Which I found unfortunately. So, this time, while there will be the usual annotation of past weeks news. There will now also be an extra section for one line summary of the news with a link to the news itself so that way it will still be acknowledged without having to spend too much time with it.
Additional further plans for KL
While the newsletter was mainly just self-contained before, the new one will be a piece of an overall bigger picture. while there’s many future plans and some which may not become reality before late next year, if things go according to plans, shortly after the reignition of this newsletter, a KazukiLabs Wiki should also be live which will function as the main location for both technical and informative information both from KL and at later point from other contributors.
The wiki will also function as the clue that binds most things together. For example, databases and spreadsheets are nice, but not made for lengthy blocks of text, in that case, just need to create a new page and link to it and people can get a more detailed information about something without messing up your spreadsheet, DB, etc. this can naturally be done in reverse as well. But the main thing is that having a convenient place for a large amount of various information which can easily be shared and contributed to is a good thing.
The newsletter will also be used to keep people informed about updates related to the wiki as well as other projects and activities by KL/KDN
Just one more thing
Please do keep in mind that with these changes there will be a lot on the plates such as this newsletter, both a wiki and multiple spreadsheets that needs to be updated and improved regularly as well as multiple other projects and material to study/read related to fields of interest and focus like RE/Malware, TI, DFIR and data analysis, etc. This does not take into account any paid employment on top of it either.
What this essentially means, is that while attempts will be made to keep everything at a reasonable quality and update schedule, this is not a guarantee. If you want to help improve or maintain it(the newsletter, wiki, spreadsheets or other projects), then do feel free to let me know as I welcome any and all help.
Anyhow, should get back to try being productive, so until next year :D
